Toxic chemicals in deodorant

  • Aluminum sesquichlorohydrate, is an aluminum salt used as an antiperspirant and cosmetic astringent. It works by blocking sweat gland ducts to keep you from sweating.
  • Cyclopentasiloxane is a silicon-based cyclic compound. Toxicity concerns are scored as a 3 on a 1–10 score card. Nonetheless, it may cause cancer, immunotoxicity, and bioaccumulation.
  • Calcium chloride, is used as a viscosity-increasing agent that induces a tightening effect and is an astringent for the skin. It is produced from limestone, but it is also synthetically produced.
  • Talc is used to absorb moisture. But talc has also been known to contain asbestos. Moreover, talc has been linked to ovarian cancer and skin irritation.
  • Fragrance is used to mask the smell of odor. The fragrance is usually made synthetically and not from a natural source. Since we are not aware of the synthetic compounds used in the creation of the fragrance, you may have a negative or allergic reaction. Also, the compounds used can be endocrine disruptors.
