So, you run to the store and purchase a bottle of tanning bronzer, slather all over your body and now your set to start enjoying the summer day with friends and family.
There is one problem with that! The chemicals in the tanning bronzer can cause health concerns.
The most popular chemicals in sunscreen and self-tanning lotions are DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) and Parabens.
DHA: Research documents how DHA in sunless tanning products has been linked to metabolic imbalance and cellular stress when absorbed through the skin.
Parabens: Are commonly used as an artificial preservative in cosmetic beauty products, hair care, and sunless tanning products. The degradable materials in these products are enhanced by this preservative, thus prolonging the product’s shelf life. According to research, parabens have been linked to estrogenic activity, alter hormone balance, and increase cancer risk.
That is just two of the active chemicals mentioned in self tanning products. There are others, such as synthetic fragrances and Propylene Glycol. But, we will cover the two most widely used in sunless tanning.
